Recent Events

The weekend of May 7 and 8 was one of celebration! The campus was abuzz with activity as the Class of 2010 prepared for Commencement and the Class of 1960 returned to campus to celebrate their 50th Reunion. After an evening of reminiscing on Friday, the 1960’s alumni led the undergraduate class of 2010 in their academic processional on Saturday morning, thus welcoming another generation to the alumni family and celebrating Eastern’s legacy. Congratulations to everyone!

On March 17, 2010 the Alumni Office celebrated the 3rd annual Tuition FREE Day with the Eastern community. On Tuition FREE Day, we honor all the generous donors who have supported Eastern University and our students. Because of the gifts we receive from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, trustees, and friends, our students receive a "hidden scholarship" each year. In other words, their tuition was FREE from March 17 until the end of the academic year. The students were excited to learn this news and are truly thankful for the all the gifts that have been given.

On Saturday, December 5, 2009, the Alumni Office had the privilege of honoring Dr. George Claghorn, one of Eastern's first deans, on his 90th birthday. Alumni, friends, and relatives traveled from all across the U.S. to celebrate with him. It was a memorable night for all. Dr. Claghorn and his wife, Shirley, have already requested that we do it again in 10 years for Dr. Claghorn's 100th birthday!

Homecoming was held on October 10, 2009. There was rain early on, but it was a beautiful day overall. At the Alumni Luncheon, all the reunion year alumni were honored and everyone was able to enjoy delicious food and a video presentation, put together by Jeremy Gudgeon '03, echoing the 2009 theme Generations of Pride: Linking Past, Present, and Future. The 2009 Alumnus of the Year, Col. Doug Mastriano '86, and the 2009 Lamplight Award winners, Dr. Christopher Hall and Derek Ritchie '89, MBA '07, were also honored. Homecoming ended with 4-3 win in overtime for the men's soccer team against DeSales and cheers of joy could be heard across campus.

Each fall, the Alumni Office recognizes and extends appreciation to those alums who have returned to work at Eastern. At the Alumni-Employee lunch, all Eastern alumni-employees are celebrated! It's a great opportunity for all the Alumni-Employees to meet each other and share their common experience of graduating from, and now working at, Eastern. This year, John Levis MBA '06 and Senior Admissions Counselor, spoke about the amazing impact that the Eastern community has had on his life. The lunch culminated with a group photo outside in front of Gough Hall.
